Back to Work

After having managed to successfully avoid doing any uni related work over the past few days, using excuses revolving around birthdays and various other celebrations, I am forced to return to the harsh reality that my deadline is this friday and there is still an uncomfortable amount of work to be done. Although the worst is over, there is a certain lecturer who I can never seem to understand and am incapable of producing quality work for her, I have completed her essay as best I think I possibly can. There are, however, more essays to write and I know that as soon as I press 'publish post' in the little orange box I will have to open up Microsoft Word and type until the morning. That's 6am in the morning which is when I will be leaving my house to get the plane from Edinburgh airport into Cardiff and begin my long and boring journey back to Carmarthen.
Oh, and of course I have to pack.
Packing. Nobody likes packing as far as I can tell. And if there is someone who enjoyes this tedious necessity then I am anxious to meet them in the hope they might change my own view on the whole thing. Perhaps for a holiday it is more exciting. Especially one to a hot country with a beach from somewhere usually grey without any soft white sand and a cooling clear blue sea. Then, surely, the packing heightens the excitement, the anticipation of going somewhere wonderful, packing clothes that are usually never worn. Unfortunately that is not the packing that I usually experience. In preperation for going back and forth between Carmarthen and Edinburgh there is no excitement. I am only burdened with the knowledge that if I forget something I have to go through the hassle of asking my mum to find it amongst my ever-growing wardrobe and post it down to me which always takes much longer than it should. There is no option to nip back home for the weekend. I also have another problem. One which I have suffered from before and am constantly reminded of by my dad. The luggage weight cannot exceed 20kg. On the way up to Edinburgh the weight was 19.9kg. I kid you not. I have to attempt to fit all of the clothes I brought up with me, plus the ones I had left behind on my way down in a mad attempt at packing practically, and the lovely things I got for Christmas and in the January sales! I am counting on the hope that the Christmas presents I brought with me weighed far more than the new things I will bring down...although I am struggling to convince myself of this.

However, I am simply going to have to be practical. As practical as anybody with an oversized wardrobe and a never ending hunger for dresses can be. There are certain things I will have to admit I may not wear too much in the advancing months. There are certain things that I MUST bring. I am going to be concentrating mainly on dresses. They are brilliant for various reasons. There are flattering styles for everyone, they range from cosy to glitzy and they eliminate the problem some people experience when having to choose matching tops and bottoms. The newest dress added to my collection was discovered when raking through the Topshop sale. The website does have a collection of various items on sale, but my advice would be to bite the bullet and enter your local store. It is the best way to find a bargain and there are hidden gems inside a heaving sale rack that can never be found on your bottom scrolling through the pretty pictures.
This particular one had more than 50% cut off it. I immediately fell in love with the bold pattern of flowers and circles. The dress is a soft cotton A line shape which, although I am told by various magazines that it is flattering for a boyish flat chested figure like mine, I do not like at all. I often feel drowned in the shape as the material balloons out and makes my legs look like tiny sticks wobbling underneath. What this does is it is given the simple design of a black cotton and polyester scarf which ties the back up, pulling it in under the bust and giving the whole thing shape. I like wearing it with a black waistcoat left open over the top, inspired by a lady in a cafe in Copenhagen, a very stylish city, and thick black tights and dark brown flat boots. Dark brown because that is what I own and as long as I wear my long chained necklace with a dark brown wooden heart at the end it matches fine. Ideally I would like a pair of lace up brogue-style black ankle boots, perhaps like these ones which can be found at the Schuh website.
They would make the outfit complete. And I'm sure I'd be able to find other occasions to wear them!
Just waiting for my loan to come through!
