I have not quite mastered being able to take photographs of my outfits, but with practice or perhaps a friend to help me I am sure I shall be able to post pictures up showing how I put things together without having to pose uncomfortably against my bedroom wall. Unsurprisingly nobody could guess what I was, but I received an incredibly positive reaction as soon as I explained I was a chamelion, despite a certain snow leopard spreading the rumour that I was Yoshi from Mario.
I was incredibly impressed with the effort everybody made with their animal costumes. The birthday girl's older sister is a professional face painter at the zoo amongst other graduate art student bits and bobs so there were some impressive wolves, tigers and racoons amongst other things.
This is a racoon. And underneath we have a snow leopard and a wolf.
I thought it was incredibly impressive. I managed to get a photograph of the whole zoo together in the club, which was a challenge, and although not a fantastic photo, achieved with as much as success as can be expected. The night went on till late in The Hive, an Edinburgh alternative club which used to be The Honeycomb, a drum'n'bass dance focused club and is now usually rock and indie, but last night it was "electro/dance/techno". Not my particular favourite. The floors are always slippy, the music is always bad, but fortunately the company was hilarious. I stayed until almost the end before being forced to retire to my bed after a bad combination of alcohol and techno techno techno. Despite all this the night was overall a success.
This brings me to tonight. A celebration of Twelfth Night, something my parents have never done before, but have been inspired by my grandparents who play a game with presents in which everyone rolls two dice and as soon as somebody rolls a double they can take a present from the pile. When all of the presents have gone, we keep playing till the timer runs out, then the next person to roll a double is allowed to take somebody else's present away from them. It sounds like it could be quite mean! I am looking forward to it. As I mentioned, it's not posh dress-up so I will wear a simple casual day dress as I feel like I at least need to wear a dress if I'm going out in the evening. Also it gives me an excuse to wear one of my many dresses I have been acquiring over the end of 2007. I have been experiencing a dresses faze. It began with the baby-doll A line dress and has been progressing to the retro dresses with large leather waist-belts for the winter season. They are the best style of dress for warm winter leather boots and chunky jewellary. Tonight I am going to wear my aunt's cast-off from a 1940's play she performed in with an incredibly wide black leather belt from topshop with two buckles, which I will wear at the back as the front of the dress already has a floral pattern on it. Comfortable and cosy, but also a little bit glam!
I'll just try not to drink so much red wine tonight and focus on finishing the delicious food.
