My New Year's resolution was to start a blog. It should have, therefore, began on the 1st of January 2008, but lack of internet connections at my grandparents old hotel tucked away in the small town of Nairn prevented immediate access to the internet. This, and the masses amount of uni work I have been given to do over the Christmas holiday, have prevented me from starting it up until now.
Then I realised that was not a good excuse. I will always find things that I have to do and a blog being something I want to do should surely take precedent over everything else. So, with my 3rd and final year deadlines looming over my shoulder, whispering 6 days in my ear, I begin writing my first of many blogs. My thoughts. My fancies.
I have always thought of myself as a faery when it comes to naming myself online, all the way from my childish disney princess faze through my gothic vampirical dark faery faze, back to my obsession with all things pink and girly, which I think will always remain a part of me forever, to now where i admire all things from that which is glamourous to comfortable as long as there is always a bit of magic involved.
Tonight it is my friend's birthday and we are under strict orders to go out into the centre of Edinburgh dressed up as animals. It will be my last night out before I go back down to Carmarthen, where I am studying English and Creative Writing. It will also be my first real night out as I have been stuck on this computer, Microsoft Word taunting my inability to compose a clear argument for the essay I have to write for Jeni, my enemy since 1st year. So, when I was sent an invitation via facebook to go out and dress up, one of my favourtie past times, I accepted with glee and have been pondering what animal I should go as that is more interesting than a cat. My question was answered when an item of clothing I had ordered from etsy arrived. I had been waiting for this with much anticipation, before any knowledge of this party. It is, in short, a dinosaur shrug. I had seen a myspace and etsy clothes maker, dirty addiction, who now has her own online store, sporting one and refusing to reveal who she had bought it from. This was a good chunk of months ago but with much searching and help from a friendly myspacer I was informed of the sellers whereabout and logged directly on to etsy, purchasing it within minutes. It arrived, much later than I wanted to wait due to the christmas post, and I am wearing it tonight. And every day from then on. I will post photos of my costume in my next blog, until then I will do my best to describe this amazing item of clothing. The seller's name is apriKotDIY
The hood and body is made out of green micro fleece and the dinosaur spikes, yes dino spikes, on the hood are made out of white fleece. The lining and the sleeves are white cotton and she has hand painted green hearts on the sleeves and dinosaurs inside the hood. It finishes just above the bust, so is purely decorative, but absolutely quirky and cute.
I toyed with the idea of going as a lizard, but finding an all matching green outfit on a budget of £0.00 is hard, especially as I'm just not that interested in green, so own very little. Then I had the brilliant, at least I am crediting myself as brilliant, idea to go as a chamelion. Then I can wear anything I want. I haven't quite decided what, but my aim is clashing colours, as many as possible, bright eyeshadow, perhaps a variety of them, and sparkles everywhere. Not because they are particularly chamelion-like, but because I love sparkles and they are always a great extra for any fancy dress. I am tempted to use my new mac (usually too expensive, but I took advantage of the duty-free on my way back from christmas in Copenhagen) gold liquid eye shadow, or bronze cream shadow or blue liquid eyeliner, or all three, as I have caught on to the metallic trend a bit late, but very appropriate for the festive season. However, they aren't very bright and colourful so I think Neon will be my theme for tonight. I wore the previous colours to death for new year and I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to bring them out again.
On this note I should probably return to one of my many essays, before I excitedly try on a variety of the brightest things I own, which will involve raking through the fag-ends of my wardrobe, an experience which can be either exhausting or exhilirating.
Tonight it will be exhilirating.
